Spirit of True Modernisation: Blunted & Disoriented
"If we wish to build a world which will use all men's diverse gifts, we must go to school to other cultures, analyze them and rationalize our findings. We must learn whatever we can from wherever we can." - Mead
Let's get into the fancy discussion now which is based on the most propagated misconception about MODERNISATION. Often observed that few young minds are spreading this word with the most beautiful and well-composed writings on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms, which is becoming nothing but a baseless and sole medium of destructive and futile argument. We should not resort to taking names of the great leaders who blessed us with free India, they all had their own set of principles and significant role to play in freedom struggles, who are you, what you know of the facts and reality of past but mere hypocrites of modern times using the past as a tool to abuse the sung and unsung war heroes.
Let me begin with clearing the air on our Golden age.
1. Yes, India was called a golden bird which is still an epitome of its beautiful and preserved Vedas, Upanishads, and scriptures. The effect of Modernisation helped us to propagate it even further. Today, foreigners are reading these scriptures and propagating Indian culture worldwide.
'Confinement of Knowledge or body has done no good to anyone'; so why such a thoughtless juggle.
2. The facts, thoughts, procedures, and rules mentioned in Vedas; were very intentionally modified and molded according to the whims and fancies of the Brahmins of later Vedic period only. I, a Pandit Brahmin, having read the beautiful composition know the original and modified positions. So, why blame Europeans or our political leaders for ripped culture or modified versions.
Isn't it hypocrisy?
3. The Modern education you are cursing was first proposed by a liberal Brahmin of India ' Raja RamMohan Roy' then flourished by Gopal Krishna Gokhale and many others. They all upheld that Modern education will become a base of well-groomed and aware India without scrapping the values, knowledge and cultural affection provided and continued for ages via Vedas and Upanishads.
Was it for beautifying the text books or had some role to play?
4. Modern Education led us to achieve 'Freedom'; unless we were well taught about the Rule of Law, the Fundamental Rights and Duties that we as citizens can and can't perform; we still might be sitting in some jungle and practicing how to use bow and arrow.
5. On this line, there is no mention of Women disallowed to perform Yajna or gain education and training from a guru in Vedic scriptures but, the modified texts scrapped that right from the feminine section of society. Modern education made us aware of such rights, the right to vote came from the West only. If it wouldn't have been the case, you still might be learning how to cook and serve your husband at age of 9 or 10. Also, abolition of Sati, child marriage, and polygamy is a gift of these modern values only.
Do these modern values pinch you in any manner?
6. The leaders who formalized the concept of Legislation via INC was a formulation of some well-educated Brahmins from western India, so if you want to argue why such need of legislation when we have scriptures so highly placed; because we want people of India (I am talking about masses with no caste or class hierarchy) to know that they too have rights and privileges similar to that of those Brahmins and upper castes.
7. Dayanand Saraswati propagated the idea of 'Go Back to Vedas' for reliving and learn from our profound culture and values ingrained in them and never propagated the idea of staying there forever; right!
Syed Ahmad Khan (first Muslim Activist) mentioned that Muslims kept aloof from Modern Education which became the major cause of abstention from development and assertion of their rights till 19th century; similar to that of several Hindu activists.
So why blame Europeans and few selected Leaders?
8. The great number of stern believers of Hindu and Islamic values or any religion are living abroad upholding their values right, taking pride in such principles and values together with embracing the change in front of them.
Blame them, for letting their daughters go to co-ed schools and colleges, for having established communication, for making friends; blame their children to introduce themselves to drugs and sex for they are destroying the values of our well-placed culture; blame yourself for not holding their hands and failing to put the true picture of wrong and right.
But no! you resort to taking names of few political leaders to blame them for having destroyed your values. Shame!
It's quite an interesting fact to note that, at first you all wanted FREEDOM to choose your medium of language, to assert your rights, and you wished to be called liberal, secular and modern men and women of India and only now these young minds provided with every facility of the modern world are balming modernization for the destruction of Vedic Culture.
Excuse me! are you even talking sane?
When you were so developed and gratified in RamRajya, why you ever wished to go for a free democratized India; you should have demanded going back to the jungles and began the schools and universities under a tree.
So well noted that today you can choose what language you want to take your exams in? What course do you want to opt for your graduation and post-graduation? What Netflix series you want to watch or not? What do you want to hold as your principle and what not? You are free to practice and propagate what you hold dear.
But no, instead of taking benefits of all such freedoms, you want to sit back and using those same boons of modernization to blame and curse the modernization itself. Well done!
'Change is the Only Constant' well addressed by various leaders of pre and post-Independent India and it's not only important but wise enough to 'change'.
And even if you don't want to change that again is your choice well-engrained in ' The Constitution of India' framed and gifted to us by those modern thinkers only.
Past has it's own glorified place in past only like you can't stop yourself from growing with each passing day, you can't stop this change as well.
Appreciate. Embrace. Live.
